Designing Cinepals: what shipping solo actually teaches you
When you design and build the same product, the feedback loop between a decision and its consequences gets very short. A component that’s awkward to implement gets redesigned within the hour, not flagged for a future sprint.
The design system for Cinepals stayed deliberately small for the first version, with fewer components reused more often, because every new component was a tax I’d personally pay in code, not just in Figma.
The biggest lesson: shipping alone forces honesty about what actually matters to users versus what’s satisfying to polish.
