MVD Makine, industrial machinery manufacturer
MVD Makine's physical machines had to be transported to trade fairs, set up, and disassembled every time, a real cost in both money and effort. Their catalog alone wasn't enough for a sale either: buyers needed to see a machine at true scale and confirm it would actually fit in their own workshop before committing.
A friend I was already working with and I researched the most viable tech for the brief, first considered Unity and Zappar-style AR tools, then evaluated A-Frame, Three.js, and various platform SDKs, and landed on model-viewer as the most optimized WebAR solution: no app install, runs natively in the browser. Got the machines as SolidWorks CAD files from the company, brought them into Blender, optimized the geometry, did the texturing and shading, and shipped four machines live through model-viewer.
Chose model-viewer over Unity/A-Frame/Three.js specifically for its lightweight, install-free WebAR support.
Shipped the models at true, real-world scale, not just for visual fidelity, but so a buyer could point their phone at their own workshop floor and see whether the machine would actually fit.
Solved the core cost problem (no more shipping, assembling, and disassembling physical machines at every fair) and gave the company a more prestigious, modern way to present its product line.
